yup, well i admit it, i blog primarily because it gives me a place to share (brag).... about my hubs, my little family life and all our great friends. it's my shrine to my own little personal 'shangri lah!' and i know - i know....we live in a generation with a sometimes very negative slant against marriage. but marriage is really about the little things. so today i have to give some props to my favorite peeps...my "hubs". if it were not for thee, none of this could be made possible :) what can i say? the man has 'mad skills'. he is amazing. let me tell you a bit about why he is the just the best---the best husband/dad/brother/friend/worker/ and christian man i know;
for starters, when he looks at me like this....i ::: melt :::: he's my McDreamy.....
he whispers the sweetest things in my ear...and he always smells like a musky forest in spring time. some of my favorite times with him are when we are out camping somewhere...sleeping in a tent. i love waking up next to him...he always makes coffee for me in a press, and knows just how much sugar and creamer i need. he appreciates that i love to cook over an open fire and will set the table near the stream, complete with a little glass of flowers and a pretty floral table cloth. his voice along with the sound of sizzling pans, near a river or stream. sigh. just the best.
he makes me gardens so sweet. this is a pic of our first ever garden. a dream come true for us. the first house we ever lived in ( a quiant little 100 yr old cottage in an historic district of the town i grew up in ) was so tiny, not even our couch would fit in the living room! we had just a small patch of yard going down the side of the old house - but there he was, digging up the little bit of earth we called home, and creating a beautiful yard for us to enjoy. we would take the baby and the boys and sit in our garden each evening, sip our coffee and watch the world go by. he's just the kind of person you can do that with. he loves to 'chill' with me. i guess one of our favorite things is being in the same room together, doing our own thing. his presence just comforts me. and all is right with the world :)
did i mention that he has an hour and a half commute in traffic every day, (both ways) and yet, he comes home after a very long and hot day at work, barely has a milli-second to takes off his shoes and do his 'mister rogers' changing of the clothes act, until he is pummeled and surrounded by a slew of 34 inch offspring! the man then proceeds to ask me if i need help in the kitchen making dinner? yup. he is awesome. when i say 'no honey, i got it' you will usually find him curled up with the girls reading a book, or helping the boys with home work....fixing their bikes or taking care of a minor crises of some sort like throwing in a load of socks for me,....he'll even fold them. God bless that man...because for the life of me, this is one task that i hate and will always put off til the bitter end. but, he does not complain.he loves my cooking, and like a little boy, he loves finding little bits of dark chocolate that i hide just for him (usually under his pillow at the end of the day as we crawl into bed). the best part of my day is when i get him all to myself...alone at last, in our room at night....our own little universe. whispers of conversation pass between us, and we just linger together, sipping hot cocoa and nibbling on good chocolate :)
to me, he is at his finest when he is holding our babies ... it is the sweetest thing to see. he is so very nurturing. i remember the funniest little thought sweeping through my mind - shortly after i realized in my heart that this is the man i want to spend the rest of my life with - that thought being, 'hmmm...i see my girls is his eyes'....i had been a single mother of 2 boys...and there was just 'something' about him. a gentleness and a sweetness that told me, 'that is the man who will give me my girls'. sure enough...i was right! and oh, what a wonderful 'girl daddy' he is! now i can imagine what it must be like being a dad of girls at times. we tend to be a bit drama here and there....we can be emotional which isn't easy for a man at times. but he takes it all in stride :)
he loves travel. and adventure. he still writes me poems. he surprises me with gifts! (my last one being my new surfboard!). he is outdoorsy and pulls my chair out for me too. we both love eggplant parmesan, and calvin and hobbs and mint chocolate chip ice cream. we both dream about driving cross county in our vw, and surfing together in costa rica one day. we want to grow old together and we talk about politics and almost always agree on the important issues. we both love the gipsy kings, radio head and paul strand photos. the best part of every day, is that i get to kiss him any time i want. and oh....those lips. don't even get me started on those soft, wonderful lips.....
